States aiming for a clean energy grid have access to $4.6 billion in federal grants

The US Environmental Protection Agency is providing a total of $7.6 billion in grants, with $3 million allocated to each state as planning grants for reducing climate pollution.

  • Clean Energy States Alliance (CESA) has published an overview of energy modeling to provide support and guidance to states using these grants.
  • NREL’s Cambium data sets provide projections for the US electricity sector up to 2050, while NREL is upgrading their ReEDS model to streamline state-level analysis.
  • In addition, 67 metropolitan areas are eligible for $1 million planning grants and $25 million is reserved for tribes. All 22 states, plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, have 100% clean energy goals according to the CESA’s 100% Clean Energy Collaborative.
